I forgot to post updates, this was made some time ago. I was not quite ”zufrieden” with the result.

There were some things I never did get right on the wooden master. Especially the tail and the rear side screens. I am rather pleased with the front.
I decided to finish it with heavy weathering to draw attention away from the failures. :-)

Bild

Before doing so, I took a mold. I hope to get back with a better, and more shiny version!

Bild

For the unfinished chassis, I need some very small crown gears with set screws, the wheel diameter is only 15 mm.

Bild

Does anyone have an idea what I could use?

Best Regards
Carver

Hello Carver,
What a nice model!
Why do you need a crown with set screws? Potentially pressed-on crowns are available with a much smaller diameter.
To my knowledge the smallest 23 tooth crowns from Slotdevil have a diameter of 13,5mm. This would work as well.
Best regards
Thomas

Hello Thomas,
Thanks for your input! Yes, those crowns would be perfect! And they actually come with set screws.
Only one problem: Slotdevil ships only within Germany...

Reading back over previous posts, I get the impression that you might be interested in a resin copy of this model?
If that is the case, maybe we could arrange some swapping, as soon as I make some copies...

Best Regards
Carver

Hello Carver,

what a superb result. Congratulation ! :clap2
In particular I like the finish in -vintage- style.
I do not know if there is a -vehicle health monitoring- in Sweden; let´s hope the car will pass such technical supervision....

You have done a fine slotcar-scale-model: but it´s a pity that width of the tires you use for do not underline -scale- impression.
I can see alu-hubs were base for your wheels; may be you have to modify these hubs fit for smaller tires.
May be you can find a set coming from a -Scalextric- Mini, may be spare parts could adepted from 1/43 slot cars.......
Have a look at -Ortmann- reifen. ( https://www.gokarli.de/mediafiles/pdf/R ... _Autos.pdf )

very best regards

claus

Hello Claus,
Thank you for your kind comments!

When I was a young man I was driving around in wrecks. Going to our equivalent to your Tüv every year was a nightmare! I used to have a run-down VW 1200 or some sort of Volvo junk.
These could, mechanically, be kept rolling forever. But the rust, always the rust!
These experiences may be reflected in some of my models, although I never was a lucky Goggo owner...

Bild

You are, of course, right about the tire width, it would look much better with very narrow wheels.
I must admit I grabbed what I easily could get hold of! They are 5 mm wide but should be around 3mm.
Making slot cars is about making cömpromises, I think... :-)
Maybe I can find a pair of skinny tires to put on in the front for looks. And keep the existing rear tires for just a little grip. 8-)

Best Regards
Carver

Hello Carver,

you are right: to get these fine models right in scale you have to make concessions to many issues. No doubt.
But tires and wheels are main (visible) parts of a model and determine design and apperance from the beginning of work.
How close you can get to the original look when doing a (scale) model was determined by these main components.
And very often tires and wheels became a compromise.
There are only a few manufactures which offer a small range of these alu-hubs you can use for -historic-models (also fit for 2.38 mm axles);
and above all to get small tires fit for these wheel constructions is a game of chance...... :(

By the way: the window-construction you did at the -Goggo- is done very very well ; no gaps or signs of bonding are visible.....
What type of -glue- you used for?

Yes, yes, screens, another eternal issue... :schwitz
Fortunately, all the Goggo screens are flat (I love flat screens)!
I used 1mm sheets cut out from old CD covers, Does anybody remember them? :?
I have tried to find the sort of glue you are using thinned with water...But it seems not to be available up here.
Instead, I use GS Hypo, which is rather strong and features a precision tip.
The screens are glued in from the outside.

Hello Carver,

wow.... what a surprise..... :-) : but please tell me: did -Glas- such a van-version in mass-production ?..... or it´s your invention ?
Anyway it´s a fine concept, I am looking forward to see the result.

Hi Claus,
I must admit, I have never seen one in real life!
But I have not made it up, they do exist!

Bild

A factory in Spain built Goggos on a license, they did the construction and produced some 300 examples.
They are known as Goggomobil F-350 Furgoneta.
It will make a rather unusual slot car... 8-)

Work continues...

I have remodeled the front of the roof to stretch it out a little bit further. Better!
Bild

Dry-fitting some detailing before starting the final work, I think it will remain blue.

The bumpers must get a little more slender. For the corrugated sheet, I used balsa wood, which I regret.
For precision work, it was too soft. I wish I had stuck to my normal linden!
There are, of course, more issues to sort out...

Cheers

Hi carver,
Your issue with the corrugated sheet really catches one's eye.

If yo're sitting in front of a screen showing the pic 30x30cm!

Take a step back and have a look from "normal" distance. I think the appearance is really good. Most visible surface is the roof and there you generated a very homogeneous structure. Yes, you could have done better. But you even didn't waste a thought for the tyre pattern yet.

I love it and I am still impressed by it's size!

Thanks for your encouraging comments!

Regarding the corrugated sheet, I think I have two choices:
1. Carefully cut away the balsa and replace it with harder wood. Not an easy operation but definitely possible!
2. Try to do the best of it as it is, maybe cover the sides partly with a sign ”Roys Motor” or something...
The car will later be covered with matt/flat clear which will not show up mistakes as well as a glossy surface.
If I am not pleased with the result I can later do the operation...

I think I take a few days off to think about this!

All the best
Carver

Hito.de, You are of course right!
But I was afraid I would only stare at the mistake, once it is ready...
So, I made a new one, actually a simple operation.
